Abandoned gas station and repair shop
Property development assistance
Oro Grande, California
Stratus was contracted to provide environmental engineering services for an abandoned gas station/repair shop in Oro Grande, California. It was reported that the station was last operated in the early 2000’s. The number of underground storage tanks (USTs) and the condition of the USTs (abandoned with a cement slurry or empty) was unknown, and documentation from several State agencies was unclear. Stratus was contracted to perform historical research, conduct a ground penetrating radar survey, expose the tops of the USTs and determine the contents of the USTs. Investigative worked discovered the presence of four un-permitted USTs; two USTs being completely empty and two with some small quantities of fuel product. The subsequent scope of work will include Stratus preparing a Work Plan for San Bernardino County Fire and the Regional Water Quality Control Plan to remove the USTs and characterize the site for potential soil and groundwater impacts. In addition, SEA will work with the current property owner to obtain funding from the Replacing, Removing, or Upgrading Underground Storage Tanks (RUST) grant program.
